Starchive helps WFMT Relaunch a Radio Legend

by | Oct 23, 2018 | 0 comments

Before podcasts became our favorite pocket radio, master interviewer Studs Terkel dominated the airwaves. Dubbed “the voice of the working man,” Terkel reached international acclaim as one of the most intellectually curious newscasters and tastemakers of the 20th century. His work on WFMT 98.7 in Chicago, which included coverage of the civil rights movement and conversations with the power players of jazz, blues, and politics, transfixed listeners.

Today Terkel talks across time: more than 1,800 hours of historic interviews are available online, thereby launching his career to a whole new generation. Starchive, our media asset management platform, enabled WFMT to easily collect, organize, and curate the Terkel archive in order to share it with the public.

“It has been a humbling and remarkable experience to have been an integral part in making this project come to life,” said Starchive CEO Richard Averitt. Thanks to the extraordinary vision of the WFMT Chicago team, and some behind-the-scenes media management, Studs Terkel is back on the air. We all now have a lot of listening to do.
